Everything is Personal with Rich Hollant

This post was originally published on July 10, 2020.

From communications design, to public policy work, to anti-racism training, Rich Hollant (founder of CO:LAB) believes in the importance of showing up, folding passion into meaning, and always, always making it personal.

Because everything is personal—business, justice, access, equity. That’s why Rich’s work focuses on amplifying our experiences as a method to challenging dominant systems that have long sought to mute individual convictions and values. Through a number of projects, Rich fosters environments where you can “bring all your abilities to the worthy places you’ve been summoned.”

To do this work, Rich suggested the following:

  1. Create a lineage for your values and beliefs — Where do they come from? Who do you look up to and why? Where do you share your inspirations?

  2. Don’t let the personal be sequestered or hidden away, and create necessary space for yourself and others to do this work.

  3. Dare to use words like “love” with people and groups you might not usually.
